My background is in engineering and aviation. In 1972 I graduated from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, California with a B.S. degree in Aeronautical Engineering. I worked in that arena for a number of years, then returned to a previous interest -- which was flying. I obtained my first job as an airline pilot for a small commuter airline in 1979, and was hired in 1986 by a major U.S. airline. I enjoyed that position until I was forced to retire for medical reasons ten years later. With time on my hands, and wondering which direction to take my life, I channeled my energies into my computer -- a hobby and passion of long standing. I've always loved science fiction and fantasy, and began my struggle to create science fiction and surrealistic scenes with the computer. In late 1996, I displayed my first creations on the World Wide Web. The general response to my work was extremely favorable, and I soon made my first sale -- a magazine cover illustration. Early 1997, I began printing and selling some of my images as fine art, and in July of 1997, my image "Lonely Orbit" took first place at the Planetfest97 art show in Pasadena, Califorinia. I have no formal training in art; the computer fills in what I lack in artistic talent. I enjoy "hard" science fiction art as well as art that simply has an "other- worldly" flavor. I generally start out with the vaguest of ideas -- or no idea at all -- and let the creation reveal itself to me. I'm almost always pleasantly surprised. I currently live in the San Francisco Bay Area with my three cats, who often complain that they are computer orphans.
